The more they write, the more they money they make. One of the simplest ways to do that is to write concerning things you know about.

Step 1

Choose a topic that you are familiar with such as your job or a hobby you enjoy. In fact, it may even be faster for you to sit down and jot down a number of subjects that you could write about. Start with the one that you think will be the easiest.

Step 2

Think of three points that you could write about concerning the topic you chose. If your title includes a list such as “Three Ways to Grow Your Business,” then make your three points the ways your readers can make their business grow. Write at least one paragraph about each one of your points.

Step 3

Write a catchy introductory paragraph to capture the attention of readers, and end the blog or article with a concluding paragraph that summarizes the topic you chose. In just a few minutes you can have a five paragraph article. Continue doing the same thing with the other topics you jotted down.

The thing to remember about technical writing is that it is meant to teach and instruct both clearly and concisely. That’s why I say technical writing is a lot like teaching. You have to teach whoever is reading your technical document and they have to be able to take what they’ve learned and use it for the task they have before them. That’s where the three C’s come in. The three C’s of good technical writing are: Clear, Concise and Complete.

You must be clear about what you’re writing which requires an understanding and maybe a little research on your part. You must be concise; you’re not writing a novel here. And, finally, you must be complete in your work, accomplish what you are trying to convey to the reader. If you follow these steps, you’ll be well on your way to a possible career and future in technical writing.
